On Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, 2025, Wassenaar will host Open Monumentendag (Heritage Open Days). Throughout the weekend, several monuments will be open to the public, with guided tours and activities taking place.
The official opening will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the town hall De Paauw. Mayor Leendert de Lange and Mr. Keijzer, chairman of the Wassenaar Open Monumentendag Committee, will raise the flag. Afterwards, a bicycle tour with the tandem bike of Fietsmaatjes will take participants along several monuments.
Saturday, September 13
From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., various monuments will be open. At De Paauw town hall, multiple guided tours will be offered, including tours in English. The Rijksdorp bunker complex will provide short tours of approximately 20–30 minutes. Guided tours will also be available at the Hertenhuisje (Deer House) and the Goede Herderkerk.
At 3:00 p.m., a lecture will take place in the Dorpskerk, given by Mrs. R. Nelisse. There will also be special children’s activities at the Fire Brigade Museum, which will be open to the public for the very last time on this day. Visitors can also join different cycling routes.
Sunday, September 14
The Jewish cemetery will be open between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with guided tours starting every hour.
