2025 in Review: A Year of Wassenaar on Video

To close the year, Wassenaarders.nl released a short video bringing together moments from 2025 in Wassenaar.
From events and sports to street interviews and everyday village life, the non-chronological montage offers a visual reflection of the past year.

The video is compiled from reports previously published on the Wassenaarders YouTube channel, showing Wassenaar from many different perspectives.

KM@NIGHT Comes to Kunstmuseum Den Haag

A new museum concept, KM@NIGHT, is launching on Friday evening, 23 January, in collaboration with PIP Den Haag.
Aimed at a younger generation, the event combines art, music, workshops and social interaction — far removed from the traditional “quiet museum night”.

The first edition is linked to the exhibition Titanic & Fashion and features DJs, live art, interactive games and creative collaborations. More details and ticket information will be shared via Kunstmuseum Den Haag’s channels.

Museum Voorlinden Announces 2026 Programme

Museum Voorlinden is preparing for a special year: its 10th anniversary in 2026.
The museum has announced an ambitious programme, including:

  • Claire Tabouret (31 Jan – 25 May): the first major Dutch museum overview of her work
  • Shilpa Gupta (31 Jan – 17 May): a powerful sound installation on censored voices
  • William Forsythe (6 Jun – 23 Aug): interactive choreographic objects
  • ICONS (12 Sep 2026 – 24 Jan 2027): a dialogue between modern icons and 20th-century masters

In addition, the popular exhibitions Mindstudy (Mark Manders) and Silence in the Storm remain on display well into 2026.

Interview: Poet Han Marinus on the Joy of Language

In an in-depth interview, Han Marinus, winner of the Dutch Championship Light Verse, reflects on his love of playful poetry.
For Marinus, fixed poetic forms are not a limitation but a creative engine — full of wordplay, rhythm and surprise endings.

He also explains why artificial intelligence is (for now) no threat to this genre:

“Poetry is about the unexpected. AI works on probability — and that’s exactly where it falls short.”

A Relatively Calm New Year’s Eve in Wassenaar

Preliminary figures from Safety Region Haaglanden show that New Year’s Eve in Wassenaar was relatively quiet.
Between 31 December and 1 January:

  • 6 fire brigade call-outs (all outdoor fires)
  • 9 police incidents (including fireworks and minor violence)
  • 6 ambulance deployments

No arrests were made, and the number of incidents was lower than in many surrounding municipalities. Final figures will follow later in January.

What’s On at the Library and Filmhuis

The Voorschoten–Wassenaar Library is preparing for the National Reading Days later in January, with activities such as reading festivals, bingo, storytelling routes and multilingual events for children and parents.

Meanwhile, Filmhuis Wassenaar kicks off the new year with a varied programme, including Wicked: For Good, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and several special screenings with Q&A sessions.

Italian Restaurant Barolo Praised in Regional Review

Wassenaar’s Italian restaurant Barolo aan het Plein has received an 8.5 rating in the annual restaurant review by Leidsch Dagblad.
The reviewer praised the restaurant’s modern interpretation of Italian classics, creative details and extensive wine list available largely by the glass.

The high score places Barolo among the best-reviewed restaurants in the wider region — confirming Wassenaar’s growing culinary reputation.
