Krokusloop Returns to the Panbos – 28 February

Athletics club A.V. Rijnsoever is organising the Krokusloop on Saturday, 28 February, the fifth race in the Running Center Duinloopcircuit.

The run takes place in the Panbos (near Wassenaarseweg, Katwijk) and follows the same scenic and challenging course as the December Sinterklaas run.

Programme highlights:

09:30 – Children (6–7 years), approx. 500 metres
09:35 – Children (8–9 years), 1 km (including “De Muur”)
09:45 – Children (10–12 years), 2 km
10:00 – Adults: 5 km (10 km runners complete two laps)

Pre-registration is possible until 26 February, 23:59 via duinloopcircuit.nl. Late registration is available on site from 09:00. Participation offers both competition and a beautiful run through the dunes.

Preparing for Power Outages and Emergencies

The Haaglanden Veilig campaign is encouraging residents to prepare for emergencies such as extreme weather, flooding, fire and prolonged power outages.

Mayor Leendert de Lange emphasised the importance of preparation:

“If the power goes out for an extended period, reliable information and simple preparations make a real difference.”

The regional safety authority advises households to keep essentials such as flashlights, batteries, drinking water and non-perishable food at home.

Residents can find practical guidance via haaglandenveilig.nl and the free Haaglanden Veilig app, which provides alerts during major incidents and advice on how to respond.

The campaign is supported by the nine municipalities in the Haaglanden region, including Wassenaar.

StemWijzer Wassenaar Now Online

In the run-up to the municipal elections on 18 March 2026, the online voting aid StemWijzer for Wassenaar is now live.

The tool presents 30 local statements on topics such as housing development, green spaces, parking policy, local facilities and municipal taxes.
Users can indicate whether they agree, disagree or are neutral, after which the tool shows how closely their views align with participating political parties.

StemWijzer does not provide voting advice but serves as an informative guide for voters.

Police Increase Patrols During School Holidays

During the recent school holiday period, Wassenaar police carried out extra patrols — both visible and undercover — to prevent residential burglaries.

As the holidays draw to a close, police stress that year-round vigilance remains important.
Residents are advised to:

Always lock doors and windows (even during the day)
Create the impression of occupancy (timers, lights, neighbour support)
Avoid leaving parcels unattended
Post holiday photos on social media only after returning home
Ensure certified locks are installed on homes, sheds and gates

In case of suspicious activity:

Call 112 in emergencies
Call 0900-8844 for non-urgent matters

Save the Date: The Big Party Leaders Debate – 4 March

On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, the Grote Lijsttrekkersdebat 2026 (Party Leaders Debate) will take place at De Warenar (Kerkstraat 75).

The evening begins at 19:00 with a political market where parties present their programmes and speak with residents.
At 20:00, the official debate starts, moderated by Jan Hein Reeringh.

The event is organised by the Vereniging van Vrienden van Wassenaar and forms a traditional highlight in the run-up to the municipal elections.
