Many internationals and expats who live in Wassenaar do not know this: you may be allowed to vote in the local elections, even if you do not have Dutch nationality. Local politics decides about things that affect your daily life. Think about housing, safety, nature, schools, sports facilities and public spaces. The Wassenaarse VVD believes that internationals are an important part of our village. Wassenaar is home to people from many countries. We want everyone who lives here to feel welcome, informed and involved in the community.
Who are we?
Political party ‘Wassenaarse VVD’ is the locally largest party in Wassenaar. We work for a safe, green and well-organised village where people feel at home. Wassenaar is an international community. Many expats work in nearby cities or international organisations but live here with their families. We think it is important that internationals feel connected to the village and can easily participate in local life.

Requirements to vote
You are able to vote in the municipal elections in Wassenaar if:
- You are 18 years or older
- You are registered as a resident in Wassenaar
- You are a citizen of an EU country, or
- You are a non-EU citizen who has legally lived in the Netherlands for at least 5 years
If you are allowed to vote, you will automatically receive a voting card by mail before the election.
