Cyclists face 14-month closure of busy route

A busy cycle route between Wassenaar and Leiden is expected to close for at least fourteen months from October because of construction work for the WarmtelinQ heat network.

Fietsersbond Wassenaar has criticised the proposed diversion through Stevenshof and Haagse Schouw, arguing that it creates additional safety risks for cyclists. Discussions with the municipality, WarmtelinQ and the contractor are continuing, but no final alternative has yet been agreed.

Parking problems cause frustration at Evenementenplein

Businesses are raising concerns about trucks and private cars parking on the renewed Evenementenplein in Wassenaar’s village centre.

Restaurant Dino’s says delivery vehicles sometimes stop close to its terrace, causing inconvenience for guests. The municipality is preparing plans for a new loading and unloading area on Van Hogendorpstraat and says enforcement officers will be asked to pay additional attention to the square.
Organisers look back on successful festival week

The Wassenaar Oranjevereniging has described this year’s Oranje Zomer Feestweek as a success.

The programme combined traditional favourites such as the lantern parade, fireworks, tug of war and ring riding with new activities including a pub quiz. The week also featured children’s activities, a classic vehicle show and activities for seniors, before concluding with a music bingo on Sunday afternoon.
