The award-winning UK outdoor theatre company Illyria returns to Wassenaar on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September 2026 with William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy As You Like It. Both performances start at 7:30 pm and will be staged at Wijdehorst (Land van Ons), Rijksstraatweg 599.
This year’s performances will take place at a new venue because of the ongoing refurbishment of Wassenaar’s municipal building. Weather permitting, audiences are welcome from 5:30 pm onwards to enjoy a picnic on the grounds before the performance begins.
Love in all its forms
In As You Like It, Shakespeare explores love in all its many guises. Set in the magical Forest of Arden, the story follows four couples whose very different romantic journeys lead to mistaken identities, playful disguises, witty exchanges and heartfelt discoveries. It remains one of Shakespeare’s most enduring and entertaining comedies.
With much of the action taking place in a forest, an outdoor performance provides the ideal setting for this timeless classic.

For more than thirty years, Illyria has earned an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s leading outdoor touring theatre companies. Performed by a cast of five classically trained professional actors, As You Like It promises an unforgettable evening of laughter, romance and outstanding theatre beneath the open sky.
The performance runs for approximately 140 minutes, including a 20-minute interval, and is suitable for audiences of all ages.
