Municipality appeals Duindigt court ruling

The Municipality of Wassenaar has decided to appeal the recent court ruling on the sale of Duindigt racecourse.

Although the court upheld the sale agreement between Stichting Beheer Renbaan Duindigt and Stichting Villa Betty, the municipality believes the judgment does not adequately protect its legal right of first refusal. Newly released documents also show that the purchase price is linked to the future housing development planned for the site.


Blendy officially opens in the village centre

Blendy has officially opened its doors on Langstraat after winning Wassenaar’s one-euro shop initiative.

The new speciality shop offers a wide selection of premium coffees, more than sixty loose-leaf teas and Belgian chocolate truffles. Owner Fabi Fabrizi hopes to bring international flavours and personal service to the heart of Wassenaar.


Day of the Horse makes successful comeback

After an absence of seventeen years, the Day of the Horse returned to Duindigt and attracted more than 5,000 paying visitors.

The event featured international horse racing, demonstrations, family activities and shows throughout the day. Highlights included the UAE President Cup, the historic Gouden Zweep race and a special appearance by television presenter Britt Dekker.


Discover Wassenaar’s hidden bunkers

This summer, visitors can explore two remarkable underground sites in Wassenaar through guided tours organised by Staatsbosbeheer.

The Bat Bunker near Wassenaarse Slag offers a combination of nature and Second World War history, while the Rijksdorp bunker complex provides a unique insight into the Cold War. Tours are held every Saturday.


Suspect remains in custody after shooting

The 42-year-old suspect arrested following the shooting in the Van der Duyn van Maasdamstraat will remain in custody for another ninety days.

The investigation into the incident is continuing. According to information shared by the victim’s family, the 28-year-old victim was not involved in the conflict and remains in critical condition in hospital after multiple surgeries.


Charity walk supports children in Nepal

A charity walk and run will take place in Meijendel on 15 August to raise money for children and young people with disabilities in Nepal.

Participants can walk or run a 6.7-kilometre route at their own pace, with all proceeds supporting education, therapy and care through the Si Asha Foundation.
