Local Business Spotlight: Sportshop Mol
In an in-depth interview, Derk Mol reflects on more than four decades of entrepreneurship at Sportshop Mol, run together with his sons Arjen and Wilco.
Tucked away at Tuinpad 69, the family business specialises in high-quality outdoor gear, sailing equipment and custom-made sails.
Mol credits success to strong product knowledge, personal service and staying ahead of trends — including the recent surge in demand for emergency kits.
“Entrepreneurship is much more than just minding the shop,” Mol says. “It’s about staying sharp and working together.”
Filmhuis Wassenaar Hosts Q&A with Director Eddy Terstall
On Monday, 9 February, Filmhuis Wassenaar welcomes Dutch film director Eddy Terstall for a post-screening Q&A.
The discussion follows the screening of his latest film, Land van Johan, set in Amsterdam during the late 1960s and exploring ideals, love and social change.
The film will also be shown on 11 and 15 February, but Terstall will be present only on 9 February.
Installation of 30 km/h Traffic Signs Underway
The municipality has started installing 30 km/h speed limit signs across Wassenaar.
From 27 February 2026, this limit will apply to almost all roads within the built-up area, with only a few exceptions.
Nearly 250 signs will be placed in phases over the coming weeks. The measure follows recommendations from a citizens’ assembly focused on traffic safety and liveability.
Alderman Wim Koetsier attended the start of the works.
Langstraat Paving Adjusted After Accessibility Concerns
Part of Langstraat has been modified to improve accessibility after feedback from residents, particularly wheelchair and mobility scooter users.
Although the original design met technical standards, real-life experience showed difficulties.
The municipality adjusted the road camber to create a more even surface, following consultations with Stichting Gehandicapten Wassenaar.
The changes bring this section in line with other parts of the village centre, which are already considered more inclusive.
4th Wassenaar Bicycle Lights Parade Brightens the Village
Despite cold temperatures, the 4th Wassenaar Bicycle Lights Parade drew many families and children on Thursday evening.
The illuminated procession cycled a 7 km route through the village, accompanied by music from a DJ cargo bike and stops for hot chocolate and treats.
Mayor Leendert de Lange joined the ride. A jury — including last year’s winner — awarded the prize for the most beautifully lit bicycle to 9-year-old Xaphirah Oushoorn, whose bike featured glowing rabbit ears and eyes.
The event was organised by Fietsersbond Wassenaar with support from Fonds Wassenaar and volunteers.
Municipal Elections 2026: Nine Parties Confirmed
The Central Electoral Committee of Wassenaar, chaired by Mayor Leendert de Lange, has officially confirmed the candidate lists for the municipal elections on 18 March 2026.
A total of nine parties will appear on the ballot, including newcomers Volt and Forum for Democratie.
In all, 163 candidates are standing for 21 council seats. No objections were raised during the public session, and list numbers have now been assigned.
“With your vote, you decide who represents you,” the mayor said, calling the strong participation a positive sign for local democracy.
