Duinrell Seeks Test Riders for New Kikker8baan

Amusement park Duinrell is looking for 100 volunteer test riders for its brand-new Kikker8baan roller coaster.

The exclusive test event takes place on 1 April between 13:00 and 15:00, ahead of the official opening on 3 April, which also marks the start of Duinrell’s 91st season.

The new family coaster keeps the famous double “figure-eight” layout of the original ride from 1985 but has been completely rebuilt with a motocross theme.

Key specs:

  • Length: 362 metres
  • Height: 12 metres
  • Top speed: 47 km/h

Roller-coaster fans can register until 18 March via duinrell.nl/testrijders.

Amy Egbers Brings Opera Classics to Theater Warenar

On 25 March, mezzosoprano Amy Egbers will perform her solo show “Klassiek geval van…” at Theater Warenar.

Egbers, known as a finalist in the Dutch TV programme ARIA, translates famous opera and song classics into modern Dutch, making classical music more accessible for a wider audience.

Accompanied by pianist Ben van Daal, the concert features works by composers such as Schubert, Bizet, Verdi, Piaf and Aznavour.

New Housing and Care Vision for Wassenaar

A new Housing and Care Vision (Woonzorgvisie) has been presented to housing corporations and care organisations in Wassenaar.

The policy aims to better connect housing, care and social support, particularly for vulnerable groups such as older residents, people with disabilities and informal caregivers. The goal is to enable residents to live independently for longer in their own neighbourhoods.

According to Alderman Ritske Bloemendaal, the strategy responds to growing pressure on the housing market and the ageing population in the municipality.

Contemporary Jazz at Jazz Sociëteit Wassenaar

On Sunday 15 March, vibraphonist Marco Ullstein and his quintet will perform at Jazz Sociëteit Wassenaar.

The young international ensemble combines melodic jazz with adventurous improvisation. Ullstein’s group gained international recognition after winning the Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition 2023 and the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award.

The band features musicians from several European countries and promises an energetic and modern jazz performance.

Regional Cooperation to Tackle Low Literacy

Wassenaar has joined several neighbouring municipalities in strengthening regional cooperation to combat low literacy and limited basic skills.

Research shows that about 12% of Wassenaar residents aged 16–75 — roughly 2,200 people — struggle with reading, writing, numeracy or digital skills.

Through a new regional agreement, municipalities will coordinate lessons, support programmes and outreach efforts. Local Language Houses (Taalhuizen) at libraries will continue to serve as accessible entry points for residents seeking help.
