Violations included non-compliant fatbikes, the use of electric scooters, phone use while driving, and vehicle defects. Officers also encountered a modified bicycle capable of reaching 25 km/h using a throttle.

In addition, a so-called “ghost vehicle” (without valid registration) was confiscated. One person was arrested on suspicion of drug offences, while three others were detained for driving under the influence of drugs.

Music association Excelsior Wassenaar continues its anniversary year with a special concert titled “Timeless Sounds” on 18 April.

The orchestra, celebrating its 125th anniversary, will perform in the St. Petruskerk in Leiden, joined by organist Aarnoud de Groen and brass ensemble Fridaybrass.

The combination of harmony orchestra and organ promises a rich and atmospheric musical experience in a unique setting.

🎭 American School Presents Play “The King Stag”

Students from the American School of The Hague will perform the classic play “The King Stag” on 17 and 18 April.

This modern adaptation of the 18th-century commedia dell’arte piece combines humour, physical theatre and a story about love and betrayal. Students highlight how the play’s humour remains relevant today and appeals to all ages.

The performances are in English and open to the public.

Coalition Talks Focus on VVD, D66 and Lokaal Wassenaar

Coalition negotiations in Wassenaar are set to continue with VVD, D66 and Lokaal Wassenaar, following advice from explorer Jan Iedema.

According to the explorer, this combination reflects both the election results and shared policy priorities, offering a solid basis for a stable local government. All parties expressed a willingness to cooperate, with relatively few major obstacles identified.

Iedema will now continue as formateur, guiding the next phase of negotiations. The aim is to reach a coalition agreement by late May or early June.

Waste Issues at Events Square Prompt Action

Accumulated rubbish bags at the events square on Van Hogendorpstraat have led to complaints from residents and local businesses.

Before collection, birds often tear open the bags, causing litter to spread and creating an untidy streetscape in the recently renovated centre.

As a long-term solution, the municipality is working on installing underground waste containers in and around the centre. These should eventually eliminate the need for garbage bags on the street and reduce nuisance.

Renovated Spinoza House Officially Opened

King Willem-Alexander has officially reopened the renovated Spinoza House in Rijnsburg, marking the completion of a major refurbishment.

The museum, dedicated to philosopher Baruch Spinoza, has been expanded and modernised with interactive elements such as QR codes and video presentations.

The renewed exhibition aims to make Spinoza’s ideas on freedom, knowledge and society more accessible to a broad audience, while attracting more visitors in the years ahead.
