A Christmas Carol. Dickens’ most loved seasonal story

23 november 20202 minute read

Charles Dickens’ novel, “A Christmas Carol” (1843), is the famous redemption tale of the wicked Ebenezer Scrooge. On Christmas Eve Scrooge is visited by spirits, including his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come.
Each ghost imparts a different message unto Scrooge about how his penny-pinching and indifference to those in need has affected himself and others who care about him.

By the end of the story, Scrooge has become enlightened and vows to change his mean, miserly ways before it’s too late. “I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. “
Can we still learn from this wise tale? Is it possible in a world that seems to be more divided than ever to share, live together and listen to one another? The gap between the haves and have-nots widens and the difference in what is true and not-true is no longer distinguishable. This story brings it all down to the essence that we can only gain by sharing and considering the other.

Ashley Ramsden will be accompanied by the Plum Pudding Singers – a four-part acapella group that sings Christmas Carols. All four singers originate from the Koninklijke Conservatorium of The Hague. The Plum Pudding Singers will perform before and during all public shows.
