New Volunteer Platform “Wassenaardoet.nl” Launched
A new website, Wassenaardoet.nl, has been officially launched as a central hub for volunteering and local initiatives.
The platform brings together an event calendar, organisation pages and volunteer opportunities, making it easier for residents to get involved.
With around 10,000 volunteers in Wassenaar, the initiative aims to strengthen connections and highlight the importance of community engagement.
Spring Concert Celebrates Female Composers
The Van Wassenaer Orchestra will perform a spring concert on 10 May, featuring works by composers Louise Farrenc and Emilie Mayer.
Both composers were highly regarded in their time but have long remained under-recognised. The concert offers a chance to rediscover their music and enjoy a varied orchestral programme.
International Exhibition Brings Spring to Life
The exhibition “All Shapes of Spring” opens on 23 April at Galerie in de Molen, featuring works by 30 international artists, many with Filipino roots.
The exhibition explores themes such as renewal, identity and connection, combining different cultural perspectives. Visitors can also meet several artists during the opening days.
Concerns Over Possible Archive Relocation
The Historical Association Oud Wassenaer has expressed concern about plans to possibly move the municipal archive to The Hague.
The association stresses the importance of maintaining accessibility, proper storage conditions and preservation, and calls on the municipality to provide clarity about the future of the archive.
Students Explore WWII Through Art Exhibition
Students from the Herenwegschool have created an exhibition in the local library, presenting their interpretation of the Second World War through drawings and artworks.
The project highlights how young people engage with themes of war, freedom and remembrance. The students will also participate in the 4 May remembrance ceremony.
Local Entrepreneur Shares Story of Craft and Networking
In a feature interview, local entrepreneur Patrick Honig reflects on nearly 40 years of running his painting and maintenance business.
He emphasises the importance of networking, craftsmanship and adaptability, noting that long-term success depends not only on skills but also on strong relationships and visibility within the community.
Water Polo Club Invites New Members
WZK Waterpolo is inviting girls (17+) and women to join a training session on 8 May at swimming pool Het Sterrenbad.
The club offers a chance to experience a challenging and social team sport, with regular training sessions leading up to the next competition season.
