“Passion for the Sea” exhibition continues in Katwijk

The exhibition Passion for the Sea remains on display at the Katwijks Museum until 25 May.

The exhibition features works inspired by the sea and coastal life by artists including Hendrik Willem Mesdag, German Grobe and Armando. One of the highlights is a dramatic 19th-century painting by marine artist Frans Arnold Breuhaus de Groot, showing a three-masted ship battling stormy seas.

The exhibition explores the role of the sea as a major source of inspiration in Dutch art and culture.

Renewed complaints about rubbish in village centre

Residents and business owners are once again raising concerns about rubbish bags being torn open in the centre of Wassenaar.

Photos taken near the Luifelbaan show waste spread across the street after bags were opened by birds or people searching for deposit cans. The issue has caused frustration, particularly because the shopping area was recently renovated.

The municipality previously announced plans for underground waste containers, but no installation date has yet been confirmed.

Blue Flag awarded again to Wassenaar beach

Wassenaar beach has once again received the international Blue Flag award for quality, safety and sustainability.

The Blue Flag now flies for the sixteenth consecutive year along the eight-kilometre coastline between The Hague and Katwijk. The award recognises high standards for water quality, environmental management and beach facilities.

Alderman Laurens van Doeveren officially raised the flag at De Wassenaarse Slag earlier this week.
