In a new video report by Wassenaarders.nl, reporter Lily Armstrong speaks with Wassenaar resident Leon Koning about his upcoming 7,500-kilometre solo cycling journey from the North Cape in Norway to Tarifa in Spain.
Through the challenge, Leon hopes to raise awareness and funds for the Duchenne Parent Project, supporting research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He shares his motivation, preparations and the personal story behind this remarkable adventure.
Young participants outsmart the hunters (video)
Around 80 young people took part in The Hunt Wassenaar, a popular chase game organised by the municipality and local police.
Participants navigated through Oostdorp collecting checkpoints while avoiding capture by police officers, enforcement officers and undercover “hunters”. After an evening of strategy, teamwork and fast decision-making, Dorus Faas and Estelle Meijer emerged as the winners in the boys’ and girls’ categories.
Municipality supports efforts to keep Bronovo open
The new coalition of VVD, D66 and Lokaal Wassenaar has expressed support for preserving Bronovo Hospital in The Hague.
Bronovo is the nearest hospital for many Wassenaar residents and its future has been the subject of ongoing debate. While healthcare provider HMC plans to concentrate hospital services elsewhere by 2030, campaigners argue that Bronovo continues to play an important role in regional healthcare.
The municipality has now formally joined calls to maintain the facility as an important healthcare provision for the region.
Congratulations to this year’s graduates
Students at both the Adelbert College and Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar received their exam results this week, with many celebrating successful graduation.
Schools, families and friends marked the occasion, while students who still have resit examinations ahead are preparing for the next round of assessments.
Lifeguards ready for the summer beach season
The Wassenaar Lifeguard Brigade has officially started preparations for the summer season.
Following a training and team-building day, lifeguards are now ready to provide beach safety services during weekends and throughout the summer holidays. The organisation is also inviting new volunteers to join and train as lifeguards.
Police arrest driver after weapon discovery
Police arrested a motorist on the Zijllaan after discovering a firearm, ammunition and a suspected hand grenade inside a vehicle.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service was called in to investigate the object, which appears to be a genuine grenade. The investigation into the origin of the weapons is ongoing.
Museum Voorlinden celebrates anniversary with interactive exhibition (video)
Museum Voorlinden is marking its tenth anniversary with a major exhibition by internationally renowned choreographer and artist William Forsythe.
Members of the Wassenaarders.nl editorial team recently visited the museum and experienced the exhibition firsthand. Choreographic Objects invites visitors to actively participate in installations that explore movement, balance, perception and human interaction.
Rather than simply viewing artworks, visitors become part of the experience themselves, making this exhibition a unique combination of art, movement and discovery.
