Luzac opens its doors for prospective students
Luzac The Hague will host an open day on 25 June, giving prospective students and parents the opportunity to learn more about the school’s educational approach.
Visitors can meet teachers and students, explore programmes such as the two-in-one exam year and the Luzac Beyond programme, and discover how small classes and personal guidance help students achieve their goals.
Duinrell crowns its first drift champion
Duinrell hosted the first edition of the 2.4 Hours of Duinrell, a playful endurance competition centred around the park’s new Duinrell Drifter attraction.
Nine teams competed over 144 minutes, completing challenges and collecting points. The winning team, a group of friends from Delft, received a family holiday at Duinrell.
The event also celebrated Duinrell’s motorsport heritage, inspired by founder Count Van Zuylen van Nijevelt, who competed in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Last chance to visit wartime shipping exhibition
The exhibition Sailing for Freedom at the Katwijks Museum will close on 28 June after attracting nearly 20,000 visitors.
The exhibition tells the story of the Dutch merchant navy during the Second World War and highlights the vital role merchant ships played in supplying Allied forces. Through personal stories, photographs and historical objects, visitors gain insight into the sacrifices made by thousands of sailors during and after the war.
Agreement reached on housing and Eli Lilly development
The Dutch government, the Province of South Holland and the Municipality of Katwijk have reached an agreement concerning the proposed Eli Lilly pharmaceutical facility and housing development in Valkenhorst.
The agreement includes commitments to affordable housing, with at least 50 percent of future homes designated as affordable. More than 100 million euros will also be invested in improving regional infrastructure and traffic flow.
The plans are expected to have a significant impact on the wider region, including Wassenaar and neighbouring municipalities.
Blauw-Zwart hosts successful youth football tournament
Football club Blauw-Zwart welcomed hundreds of young players to its annual Mega Youth Tournament.
Teams from across the region competed during two days of football at sports park De Schulpwei. Organisers praised the atmosphere, volunteer support and strong focus on enjoyment, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The event once again highlighted the important role local sports clubs play in community life.
Veterans honoured during annual gathering
Wassenaar’s annual veterans’ gathering took place this year at the Defence complex Maaldrift due to the ongoing renovation of Town Hall De Paauw.
Mayor Leendert de Lange thanked veterans for their service and highlighted the cooperation between the municipality and the Ministry of Defence. Participants were given a tour of historic military vehicles and had the opportunity to share memories and experiences.
The day concluded with an informal gathering at a local brewery.
Fire brigade remembers fallen colleagues
Firefighters in Wassenaar took part in the National Fire Service Remembrance Day, honouring colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty.
A local ceremony was held near Huize De Paauw, where firefighters paid tribute through a special water salute symbolising respect, solidarity and remembrance. The annual commemoration reflects the strong sense of dedication and camaraderie within the fire service.
