Plein Musique announces final summer concerts
The popular Plein Musique concert series will conclude the summer with two free afternoons of live music on 30 August and 6 September at De Burcht.
This year’s programme features international pop, rock and roll, vintage-inspired music and a tribute to the legendary band Toto, offering something for music lovers of all ages.
Campaign helps parents recognise signs of drug crime
The Municipality of Wassenaar and the police have launched a new awareness campaign encouraging parents to recognise signs that young people may be involved in drug use or drug-related crime.
The campaign, titled See the Signs. Start the Conversation, provides practical advice and encourages parents to seek help if they are concerned about their children.
Dunea calls for responsible water use during heatwave
Despite having sufficient drinking water available, water company Dunea is asking residents to use water wisely during the continuing hot weather.
The company says demand rises sharply during warm periods and encourages shorter showers, careful garden watering and the use of refillable water bottles to help keep the water supply reliable for everyone.
Registration still open for Zwemloop Wassenaar
The 31st edition of the Freek van Os Zwemloop Wassenaar will take place on 30 August at Wassenaarse Slag.
Participants can choose between a half or full swim-run, a ten-kilometre Duintrail or a relay event. Registration remains open until 28 August.
New festival for teenagers announced
A new alcohol-free music festival, VRSN Under 18, will take place on 11 September in nearby Voorschoten.
The festival is aimed exclusively at young people aged 13 to 17 and will feature live performances, DJs, food trucks and entertainment in a safe environment.
Major dune fire hits Wassenaar
A small fire near Wassenaarse Slag quickly developed into a major dune fire, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Around 150 firefighters from several regions were deployed, while Hotel Duinoord was evacuated and an NL-Alert was issued for Wassenaar and Katwijk because of the heavy smoke. Approximately five hectares of dune landscape were affected.
Questions raised over missing fire water connection
Following the dune fire, the chairman of the Association of Beach Operators said the fire might have been brought under control more quickly if an underground dry fire main had been connected to the local water supply.
According to the beach operators, most of the infrastructure is already in place, but one short section has never been completed. The municipality says the issue will be examined during the official evaluation of the incident.
